I teach a course on horary astrology» with my friend and colleague, Chris Brennan. The course is hosted on Chris’ website, The Astrology School» alongside his other popular courses such as his course on Hellenistic astrology.

If you are interested in learning horary astrology, this course will teach you everything you need to know to begin answering horary questions for people and helping them with their problems.

Early medieval horary astrology.

The techniques we cover in this course come from the earliest surviving textbooks on horary astrology, which were all written in Arabic between the 8th and 9th centuries CE by astrologers like Māshā’allāh ibn Athari and Sahl ibn Bishr.

Our focus on the medieval Islamicate tradition is what sets our course apart from other popular horary astrology courses, which all tend to focus on the early modern tradition of horary astrology epitomised by the 17th century astrologer William Lilly.

By going back to the earliest available textbooks, Chris and I have attempted to reconstruct the earliest formalised system of horary astrology, and tried to understand the intentions of the astrologers who created it.

This course is built upon new translations of these texts that have only become available in recent years, and it represents a watershed moment for the study and practise of horary astrology!

The early medieval approach to horary astrology differs in some significant ways from horary in 17th century England - for example, the use of whole sign houses, and a more detailed and fleshed-out aspect doctrine.

Content of the course.
